After the government’s announcement of another national lockdown this week, many businesses are finding themselves back in panic mode, with industries such as hospitality and retail taking another huge blow. Whilst a lot of businesses will need to cut costs again, we believe for many this lockdown could be a huge opportunity to look in the mirror and direct your focus inwards. Here are a few suggestions on how to use this time to improve your marketing:
Assess which channels are working for you – Look into your analytics and take stock of what worked in 2020, and what didn’t across your social media and digital advertising. If you don’t have any analytics set up for your website or social, now’s a great time to explore some options.
Look for gaps within your brand – Last year was difficult for everyone and many businesses found it hard to keep telling their stories. Did your messaging stay consistent and true to your brand? Take a look at your campaigns from last year and compare them to your brand values and the story you are trying to tell. If they don’t match up, now is a good time to make some changes.
Evaluate your marketing resources – Is your business equipped to market your products or services to the best of its ability? It may feel like this is the time to cut back spending, however research shows that successful businesses have invested more on marketing during the pandemic and are reaping the rewards. Perhaps you need to hire an extra person to manage your social media channels, or a marketing consultant to help build your strategy (if you need recommendations we know a few!)? You might just need a subscription to Photoshop, whatever it is, evaluate what tools you have, and which ones you need to move forward.
Now is the time to be proactive, trust in your business, trust in your brand and give it what it needs to flourish.
As always, enjoy the view.
